Scenes from the beautiful and tragic 1999 German drama “Aimee And Jaguar” about doomed lovers in WW2 Nazi Germany.

Based on a true story and the memoirs of Lilly Wust, the wife of a Nazi soldier, who meets and falls in love with Felice Schragenheim, a Jewish underground resistance leader living under an Aryan alias.

Felice was arrested by the Nazis in 1944 and died on a march from one concentration camp in Poland to another in Germany. One can only imagine the atrocities and horrors she endured before death freed her.

Lily and Felice had less than two brief years of happiness together and much of that time was fraught with fear and danger.

Lilly lived another 60 years following Felice’s death before dying herself in 2006. She existed most of those years alone claiming she could never love another after Felice and saying further that Felice’s presence was always with her.

To her additional credit, after Felice disappeared, she was responsible for saving the lives of three other Jewish refugees by hiding them in her home.

I’m not a particularly spiritual person and am skeptical regarding an afterlife but this is one of those intensely human stories about the power of love that makes me want to believe that somehow, somewhere they have reunited… in a far better place where there is no more hate and war and they can love freely without fear at last.

The photos at the beginning and end of the video are of the real Lily and Felice. They were the last taken of them together.
